Carrier Oils
|
Carrier or base oils are used in diluting the essential oils before applying them to skin. They are the carriers of essential oils. They do the job of carrying essential oil onto the skin.
They are cold pressed vegetables oils and are derived from the fatty portions of the plant. They do not evaporate in the way essential oils evaporate. They are natural and are not treated chemically.
Examples of carrier oils are sweet grape seed, almond, avocado, peanut, olive, pecan, macadamia nut, sesame, evening primrose, apricot kernel, walnut and more.
Carrier oils can go rancid. Carrier oils are also available in forms in which vitamin E is added which acts as a natural preservative.
