Research about HGH Side Effects

The full form of HGH is human growth hormone. Produced by pituitary gland, it is one of the many endocrine glands of the body which secrets it directly into blood stream instead of into a duct.

The function of this hormone is to promote growth in children and maintain metabolism in adults. This hormone has been produced synthetically as well.

One of the important uses of using this hormone for therapy is to help those children who do not produce enough this hormone to overcome their poor growth. It is very safe to use HGH if it is done under proper medical guidance. But, there are cases when players and athletes start taking this hormone without any guidance to develop their muscles and improve their stamina.

Number of research is going to study different side effects of HGH replacement therapy. In a study reported in the United States in November, 2002, it was found that around 40% healthy people who received HGH with or without sex hormone had to face side effects like diabetes, glucose intolerance, swelling of joints and carpal tunnel syndrome.

It was also found these side effects abated in 2 to 6 weeks after the treatment was stopped. Such side effects caution us to use the HGH wisely and under able guidance. Unmonitored and unattended dosage of HGH can have pretty disastrous results.

HGH also is reported to have effects against aging. Not more than 15 years ago, it was found that declining level of certain hormones resulted into the aging process. This is because the body maintenance system goes weak. Our health is dependent on normal levels of different hormones in our body like thyroid, estrogen, testosterone, progesterone etc.

But, the most important hormone involved in the aging process is HGH or Human Growth Hormone. As has been stated earlier, this hormone is secreted from pituitary gland. For young people, level of HGH goes on increasing reaching the highest level at adolescence.

After attaining the age of 21, level of HGH in the body starts to fall at the rate of 14% per decade. When a man reaches the age of 50, more than 50% of them are partially or completely lacking the hormone. But this loss can be replaced and this deficiency is not permanent.

Lots of research has shown that by increasing HGH level in the body, the process of aging can be slowed and even can be stopped and reversed. L. Cass Terry, M.D., Ph. D. conducted a study where he found that when HGH level was increased, he found that 75% people reported body fat loss, mass gain of muscles, improve in strength, higher tolerance to exercise and higher energy level.

Many of them also reported better skin texture, thickness and elasticity. In another study made by Dr. Daniel Rudman and his team at Medical College of Wisconsin, they gave HGH to a group of men of ages ranging from 61 to 80. After conducting the study for six months, it was found that these people lost 14% of their body fat and gained 8.8% of muscle, without any change in diet, exercise or smoking habits.

It was also found that their bone density and skin texture also improved. According to Dr. Rudman, by giving them HGH for six months resulted in negating the effects of aging of last 10-20 years. In a study made by Dr. David Clemmons, chief of endocrinology at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, it was found that increasing HGH level along with dieting accelerated the fat loss by 25% above that caused by dieting only.

All these studies show the good effects HGH therapy if it is done under proper medical supervision.
