Lentigo

Lentigo is a small, flat, brown in color spot on the surface of the skin.
Some people call it Lentigo maligna. The plural of lentigo is lentigenes.
Lentigines observe worldwide and they depend on the different types of lesion.
Solar lentigines are observed in 90% of Caucasian population those age are more than 60 years and in about 20% of Caucasian younger than 35 years in the United States.
Normally the skin lesion is greater than one centimeter in diameter. Lentigo often found on the cheeks, around the mouth and nose, foot and shoulder.
This disease appears on the surface of the skin that is exposed to the sunrays as flat patches in red color. This disease is the type of melanoma.

It is commonly found in people who are more than 50 years old. It is commonly found in-patient who has skin cancer. This disease is commonly found in more men as compared to women. This skin disease also affects adults and children. |
Symptoms:
Brownish spots on the surface of the skin do not painful and itch. Lentigo develops on the neck, head, on the cheek, back of the hands and foot. Skin lesions are one to five centimeters in diameter. Lesions appear in irregular shape and dark brown in color.
Diagnosis:
Your health care provider can be diagnosed lentigo by it appearance and change in your skin. The health care providers will be diagnosed it by family history of lentigo and skin cancers. Lentigo can be diagnosed by using the American cancer society’s ABCD mnemonic which stands for border irregularity, length of skin lesions, asymmetry and color variation.
The health care providers may evaluate skin, bone, liver, central nervous system and lymph nodes where the cancer may spread and for diagnosis of lentigo, the health care providers will be performed an excisional biopsy.
Treatment for lentigo:
Treatments of lentigo include radiation therapy, surgery and chemotherapy. Initially, the health care providers will be examined the patient each three or four months for at least two years. When other treatments have failed, then surgery may cure the Lentigo. Cryosurgery is also a beneficial treatment for lentigo.
Lasers are also effective treatment for various type of lentigo. In cosmetic therapy, a dermatologist may be prescribed medication to reduce the lentigo. Consult the health care providers before selecting any type of treatment for lentigo.
Prevention:
- One should don’t go away to sun exposure.
- One should use sunscreen lotions or creams.
- One should wear long skirts, long hat, pants and long-sleeved shirts.
- One should not go outside between 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- One should use sun blocks
