Weight Control Surgery







Surgery is the last option for chronic conditions of severe obesity. There are a number of surgical options available to treat the problem of obesity. The weight loss surgery promotes weight loss by decreasing food intake and by causing the poor digestion of food thereby making the fewer calories absorption.

There are different surgical options for the individuals looking to control the weight by with surgery.

Restriction Surgery

Vertical banded gastroplasty:

Gastric bypass operations:

The procedure of the gastric bypass is conducted by creating a small pouch to restrict the food intake and at the same time a bypass is constructed to the duodenum and other segments of the small intestine to cause bypass of the excessive food. There are two types of gastric bypass operations roux-en-Y gastric bypass and extensive gastric bypass.

Benefits and risks:

The weight loss surgery has provided immediate results to most of the patients. But it is a serious operation that must be used as a last option. There are a number of potential risks associated with the surgery it is better to make a good evolution of the patient to know whether he is fit enough to undergo such a surgical treatment. The most common side effects of the surgery are vomiting and dumping syndrome. The development of gallstone is another common problem with the surgery. It can cause nutritional deficiency, anemia and diarrhea.

In spite of these potential risks the surgery can be life giving to the patients. It is to be used in the extensive cases of obesity that causes other chronic health problems.
