Acne During Pregnancy







Acne is a skin problem which the women are facing during pregnancy as the skin becomes very sensitive and due to the remarkable changes in preparation for the delivery of baby.

Women are faced with side effects of pregnancy i.e melasma.

This condition present among women causes discoloration of the skin mainly on the upper lip, nose and forehead.

There are some dos and don’ts to reduce acne and protection of baby and they are:-

  • The women during pregnancy clean the skin twice in a day to keep it oil free. An oil-absorbing microfiber cloth can be used by them while washing their face.

  • Plenty of water can be used while cleaning the face from the residual soap which can irritate the skin and can be the cause for collecting bacteria.

  • Extra care should also be taken while rubbing the affected area like acne as it can spread the infection to other parts of the face and body.

  • The women during pregnancy should perform the exercises daily as it will increase the blood circulation, balance all types of skin, helps in the toning and makes the skin healthy. Exercise also reduces one of the cause of acne that is stress.

  • A healthy plan should be followed about the cleanliness to control the bacteria and plenty of fruits and vegetables should be eaten which should be thoroughly washed.

  • The affected areas with acne should be washed gently with an oil free mild soap. This increases the glandular production activity.

  • The women should keep the skin dry and after 5 minutes of showering, oil-free moisturizer should be applied on the skin.

  • Before applying an astringent, the women should use the cotton balls to clean each blackhead or pimple in order to prevent from the infection.

Acne Treatment during Pregnancy

The women during pregnancy should first consult the doctor before taking any medications. The doctor can prescribe certain drugs to the pregnant women such as Retin-A, Accutane and Tetracycline. The overuse of these drugs should not be done as it can harm the new born baby. Some of the medications prescribed for the pregnant women are:-

Retin-A

This is also known as Tretinoin. This is a cream which is applied on the affected area to reduce acne. One should consult the dermatologist before applying it.

Accutane

This is available in the form of pills or tablets and considered to be a best medication which can be taken orally to treat the acne. It is also known as Isotretinoin. Taking this medication can leads to the miscarriage and infant death during pregnancy. So, one should first consult the doctor.

Tetracycline

It is an antibiotic which can be taken orally to treat respiratory infections and acne. The doctor should be consulted as it can lead to discoloration of teeth and bone growth in a fetus of the women.
