Cystic Acne







Cystic Acne is the important form of acne. This type of acne can be painful.

It commonly appears on the arms, upper body, legs, neck or face. Cystic acne mainly found in adults and teenagers. They can similar to nodule and are appeared in large size such as diameter is more than 5 mm.

This type of acne can be associated with pus-filled. There is a probability of causing a deeper infection and harmful inflammation due to without any treatment and squeezing the acne.

Patients should go to dermatologists for treatment of cystic acne. Sometimes, after getting treatment, it may leave acne scars on the body.

Causes of Cystic Acne

There is no a single cause of this type of acne. It can be developed by excess growth of sebum, certain medications, and changes in the level of hormones, bacterial infection and heredity. Sometimes, it can associate by the result of dead cells in the hair follicle and make on the surface of the skin.

Risk factors

The changes in the level of hormones may cause cystic acne. These are usually occurred in the following people:

  • Teenagers’ male and female
  • Women and girls before the periods of menstrual
  • Pregnant women
  • Persons who are using certain medications like cortisone

Other risk factors

  • Friction or pressure on the skin of body caused by items such as tight collars, helmets, cell phones and backpacks.
  • More exposure of the skin to specific oily or greasy cosmetics products.
  • Family history of cystic acne can be the higher risk of getting of acne.

Signs and symptoms

  • Blackheads
  • Red in color
  • Pustules
  • Tender and hard lump under the skin
  • Whiteheads
  • Nodule
  • Scarring and inflammation of the skin

Diagnosis

The health care providers or dermatologists will be performed physical examination to detect this type of acne. Sometimes, the appearance of the skin can be showed this type of acne.

Treatment

There are many form of treatment available. The different types of treatments are based on the symptoms and causes of cystic acne. Certain medications are very beneficial to fight against bacterial infection and remove the cystic acne. It can be reduced by Isotretinoin.

This is also called by Accutane. Patients must take it twice a day after taking meal for a month. Isotretinoin is very beneficial and easy to use drug. About 80% of patients got the best results with the help of this drug.

This medication is not recommended to pregnant ladies. Go to the health care providers as soon as possible, if one has experienced other signs and symptoms of this disorder.

Prevention

  • Use only antiseptic lotions, creams, soaps or gels.
  • Apply anti-acne cream on each acne.
  • Remove the make-up before going to sleep at night
  • Take well-balanced diet such as sprouts, fresh vegetables, fresh fruits and fresh fruit juice.
  • Do not squeeze, rub the affected area, which can lead to scars and infections.
  • Wash the affected area with soaps and clean water before starting any treatment.
  • Drink large quantity of water daily.
  • Avoid oily products such as milky cleansers, lipsticks, lip-gloss or cold creams.
  • Do not touch the affected area with dirty fingers or hands.
