Genital Acne
Genital acne is also one type of acne which is considered to be uncomfortable and difficult to treat.
This type of acne can affect the skin which includes back, face, shoulders, chest and neck and this condition can also spread to the genetic areas which are the delicate areas of the body.
There is no difference between the acne that affects the genital area and which affects the other areas of the body.
This acne is not a sexually transmitted disease and this does not spread through contact.
Sometimes genital acne is associated with the condition that it is caused by poor hygiene practices. But this is not the cause of genital acne or the acne which affects the other area of the body.
The main causes of genital acne are the accumulation of sweat which can be caused due to sports equipment and clothes. Some detergents and laundry soaps are such that they irritate the skin and cause acne and some allergic reactions. This leads to overproduction of oils due to the sebaceous glands.
All areas of the skin contain small pores which are blocked and infected and form the blackheads and whiteheads. This is caused due to the excessive oil produced by the sebaceous glands.
This oil gets trapped in the hair follicles or pores and mixed with dead skin cells, debris and pollutants which later on cause bacteria which are most common found on the surface of the skin. The pores which are blocked results into blackhead or pus filled zit which makes the skin swollen, red and painful.
If the person experiences acne in the genital area then one should immediately consult the dermatologist to determine the best treatments for acne. Acne in the genital area is treated in the similar way as acne in any other part of the body.
Treatments
The best option to treat genital acne is that one should use a gentle laundry detergent for washing their underclothes as these detergents contain some chemicals which can make the acne worse. The person should avoid wearing clothes that are very restrictive or snug.
There are various treatments for mild and severe genital acne. Oral medications or over the counter treatment such as benzoyl peroxide solution, antiseptic or hydrogen can be used to reduce genital acne and fight against the bacteria.
The person should follow the instructions as directed by the dermatologist and avoid the overuse of oral medications as they can dry the skin and can also lead to irritation.
Regular check up should be done to treat the genital acne. Gentle cleansing of the affected area regularly can reduce the genital acne. Only a mild cleanser should be used instead of harsh scrubs or soaps. Certain genital acne products can be used for their treatment such as Camphor Pore Minimizing Masque, Creams, Lotions and Gels, Clarifying Astringent etc.
